Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith (Romans 3:27).
As we discussed in the previous post, faith is a law that will work one hundred percent of the time if the conditions necessary for the law to operate are met. Knowledge of the will of God is the first prerequisite for faith to work. The Bible teaches us how to know the will of God: “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove/discern what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2). To know the will of God, we must first dissociate ourselves from the customs and traditions of this world and change how we think. We are to think on the things that are true (Philippians 4:8). Jesus Christ, the Word of God, is Truth (John 14:6). Even so, to renew our minds as we ought, we must learn to think in line with the Word of God. It is then alone are we transformed and put in a position where we are able to discern what the will of God is.
Knowing the will of God through His Word requires that you “take heed how you listen” (Luke 8:18); not just WHAT you listen to (Mark 4:24) but HOW you listen to or hear it (Luke 8:18). This means we are to pay attention to exactly what God said and go by that alone, not what we think He said or should have said. We must meditate on God’s Word (Joshua 1:8), looking intently into it (James 1:25) and paying close attention to its every word that we may know exactly what God’s will is. It is what God says alone that is bound to come to pass, not what we try to make Him say either through ignorance or arrogance.
When you search through the Scriptures, it is fairly easy to see what God says He will do about your situation. But He doesn’t always tell us how He will do it. If God hasn’t told you how He is going to meet a need in your life or fulfill a promise to you, do not create for yourself a procedure by which it will happen. Similarly, if God hasn’t given you a specific time by which the manifestation of His promise will come to pass, refrain from setting your own time and dates. You set yourselves up for unnecessary disappointments, which may hurt your faith, by attempting to fill in the blanks for God. Go with exactly what God said, stand on that alone, and see the law of faith work for you.
