Dealing with the Storms of Life – Part 1

From the dictionary1, a storm is defined as “a disturbance of the normal condition of the atmosphere, manifesting itself by winds of unusual force or direction, often accompanied by rain, snow, hail, thunder, and lightning, or flying sand or dust”. In other words, storms refer to disruptions of the normal state of affairs which manifests as something we can see, feel, or experience. This means that by the time you start feeling the effect of a storm in your life, there would have been a disturbance that has already taken place behind the scenes. Dealing with the storm will therefore require an understanding of the type of disturbance that has taken place and how to handle or deal with that disturbance.

Naturally, we view storms as being damaging and destructive, however, storms have some tremendous benefits as well. For example, storms help in seed dispersal and help to replenish plant life. Lightening associated with storms can lead to fire, which is an important driver for forest renewal and ecosystem functioning; some forest trees need fire to release seeds from their cones for regeneration. Storms also help to maintain global heat balance and bring rainfall to areas that need it. Similarly, the storms that affect our lives can have very good or very devastating consequences depending on the type of storm we are dealing with and how we respond to it.

Life is full of storms. This is certainly true of the Christian life and more so in these last days. Jesus told us that “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). To Christians, the Bible also says, “through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God” (Acts 14:22). Again, in 2 Corinthians 1:5 we read: “…the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ” and 2 Timothy 3:12 adds that “all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted”. So it is not a question of “if” we will ever face storms in our lives but how prepared we are when the storms show up.

A Very Important Message
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). Therefore, If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, I invite you to put your faith in Him. Pray the prayer below to accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour: “I come to you God in Jesus’ name and surrender my life unto you. I repent of my sins and I ask You to forgive me all my sins. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and I believe with my heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead. I thank you God for saving me, in Jesus name, Amen”. If you sincerely prayed this prayer, believe and be assured that you are saved, for the Bible says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13, Romans 10:9-10, Acts 16:31). Find a Bible believing church to attend so that you can be discipled to grow in the ways of God. You can also email me ([email protected]) and I will be happy to grow together with you in Christ.
