Dealing with the Storms of Life – Part 10

Focus on Jesus

A great miracle began in Peter’s life when he stepped out in faith and walked on water at the command of Jesus (Matthew 14:28: 29). “But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me” (Matthew 14:30, KJV). As long as Peter kept his focus on Jesus, he did the impossible and walked on water. But when he gave heed to the boisterous winds, fear came in and he began to sink. In the same way, as long as we keep our eyes on Jesus and act on His Word, we will triumph over every storm, and nothing shall by any means hurt us. To do otherwise is to invite fear and defeat.

We learn the same lesson in Hebrews 12:2, which says, “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God”. If we are to look unto Jesus, then the way He overcame during His hour of trial is the way we will also overcome. He overcame by considering the reward He was to receive if He endured the sufferings of the cross. This spurred Him on to ultimate victory. Likewise, we also need to wrap ourselves in the promises of God (e.g. James 1:2-4, 1 Peter 4:12-13, Romans 5:3-5, 2 Peter 1:6-9) and let God’s promises dominate our hearts and minds, while we also consider that “our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17, KJV).

To look unto Jesus is also to look to His His Word. When Jesus told Peter to come to Him on the water, it is on that word that Peter walked, not just on water (cf. Mathew 14:28-29). The word of the Lord has more substance than the water Peter walked on or any other thing we may base our lives on. It is the power that holds the entire universe is in place (cf. Hebrews 1:3) and will certainly keep every storm in check if we focus on and live by it.

A Very Important Message
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). Therefore, If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, I invite you to put your faith in Him. Pray the prayer below to accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour: “I come to you God in Jesus’ name and surrender my life unto you. I repent of my sins and I ask You to forgive me all my sins. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and I believe with my heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead. I thank you God for saving me, in Jesus name, Amen”. If you sincerely prayed this prayer, believe and be assured that you are saved, for the Bible says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13, Romans 10:9-10, Acts 16:31).
