Dealing with the storms of Life – Part 11

Faith and Godly Confessions

In Matthew 17:20, Jesus gave this important lesson on faith: “And He said to them, ‘…for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say…and it will be done…and nothing will be impossible to you’” (cf. Matthew 17:20). In other words, faith speaks, and it has what it says. We find Jesus demonstrating this truth when He faced a storm with His disciples at sea: “They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm. And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” (Matthew 7:24-25). Jesus stilled the storm by speaking to it and expected His disciples to have exercised their faith just as He did, which He demonstrated by speaking to the storm to cease.

In another instance in Mark, we find Jesus emphasizing this same lesson. Mark 11:22, reads, “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God”. The phrase “have faith in God” also translates literally as “have the faith of God”. This can be rendered as “have faith in the same manner as God has faith” or “have the God-kind of faith”. That is the type of faith Jesus wants us to have. Jesus went on to immediately explain how this God-kind of faith operates: “For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith” (Mark 11:22-23). The God-kind of faith believes in the heart, says what it believes, and receives what it says, not just what it believed. It is the same truth Paul and David proclaimed: “It is written: ‘I believed; therefore I have spoken.’ Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak” (2 Corinthians 4:13). This is how God operates in faith, and He expects us to do likewise. Therefore, don’t fall for the mockery of those who attempt to belittle the very faith Jesus expects us to have by derogatory referring to us as the “name it and claim it bunch”. The truth is that the faith that comes from God and His Word is neither silent nor mute. It speaks, and thereby possesses what it says. Even so, we don’t go about saying just what we want. The source of faith is God and His Word (Romans 10:17, Hebrews 12:2). Thus, if our faith is of God then it will be in line with the will and Word of God. This is what gets the job done.

There are storms in life, example some demonic storms, that will not go away simply because we expect God to make them disappear. We have to do something about them because if we don’t they will sweep us away. But we can stand our ground and have the victory because Jesus has said, “Behold, I give unto you power (authority) to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19). Therefore, begin to exercise your authority in Christ. Find out what God’s Word says about the particular situation or storm you are faced with. Believe what God says and speak that to the situation and in the situation continually, without wavering. The Bible also defines faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1). Thus, although you may not yet have seen the manifestation of what you have believed for, the evidence that you still possess it now is your faith. Therefore, believe that you have received (not going to receive), and let the words of your mouth agree with your faith. Your faith and your godly confessions will give substance to what you have hoped for, and victory shall be yours.

For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith” (Mark 11:22-23).

A Very Important Message
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). Therefore, If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, I invite you to put your faith in Him. Pray the prayer below to accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour: “I come to you God in Jesus’ name and surrender my life unto you. I repent of my sins and I ask You to forgive me all my sins. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and I believe with my heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead. I thank you God for saving me, in Jesus name, Amen”. If you sincerely prayed this prayer, believe and be assured that you are saved, for the Bible says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13, Romans 10:9-10, Acts 16:31).
