In the previous post, we looked at five core issues that undeniably point to the existence of an external source: i) the issue of existence and coming into being; ii) the issue of life; iii) the issue of order and purpose; iv) the issue of the realm of thoughts and emotions; v) the issue of moral objectivity. These issues do not simply point to “something out there.” They point to a source with specific, knowable characteristics: transcendent, powerful enough to create universes, intelligent enough to design complex order, and personal enough to create consciousness and emotions.
No human being—and nothing within our system of earth and universe—can claim to hold objective answers to these issues. How could someone explain their own origin when they are part of the very system they are trying to explain? We are all brought into being by an external source, given life by that source, and only later become aware of our existence within a complex system already in motion. By definition, we cannot supply ultimate answers to questions of existence, life, and purpose. Only one who is external to our system—greater, more powerful, and more intelligent than us—can provide those answers.
Such a source must have its origin outside the system, with abilities beyond ours. For this reason, we must examine the claims of those who say they have the answers, and test them against reason and evidence.
This is where Jesus and the Bible come in. Their claims and influence have spread across the entire earth, enduring for more than two thousand years, and still growing today. Followers of Jesus have been persecuted, vilified, and even killed throughout history, yet they persist in proclaiming His message. Why would people endure such suffering if these claims had no real consequence?
Jesus stands apart from anyone else in history. He declared that there is a God, claimed equality with Him, lived a just life, and supported His words with evidence: His foretold death and His resurrection. The resurrection, though doubted by some, has never been disproven. Eyewitnesses testified to it, and the fact itself points to something beyond the natural realm. This alone should compel every honest person to reflect carefully on Jesus’ claims about existence, origins, and life’s purpose. His influence on civilization, history, and even how we mark time shows that it is unwise to ignore Him.
But how can we test the claims of Jesus? He gives us a clear way. He invites us to hear and examine His words (Luke 8:8, Matthew 28; Mark 4:24, Luke 8:18). He promises that if we are truly willing to obey God, we will know whether His words are true or false (John 7:17). Scripture affirms that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God.” This is why Jesus sends His followers to share His message actively (Matthew 28:19-20)—so that all may hear, believe, and come to their own conclusions.
