God’s Impartiality: How God takes care of the claims of atheism and of ignorance of the truth

God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to die for all because of His love for all mankind. He doesn’t love any race or people group more than the other. Concerning this truth Peter declared, “…I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality, but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to Him” (Acts 10:34-35).  John 3:16 also says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”.  “Whoever” surely includes you and me. We are all equally eligible for God’s saving grace through Jesus Christ.

It is, however, obvious that a person born into a Christian family has the advantage of hearing about Jesus, believing in Him and being saved very early in life. Even so, it is evidently clear in the Scriptures that salvation through Jesus Christ does not ultimately depend on the family, culture or religion you are born into. If this were not the case, then God would be unfair and unjust to allow into hell those He did not present an opportunity to be saved. But the Scriptures teach otherwise: “Righteousness and Justice are the foundation of Your [God’s] throne” (Psalm 89:14a)”. Therefore God is righteous in all His ways, and just in all His judgements. Let us delve into this matter a little deeper.

In Romans 1:18-20 the Bible declares, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men [Greek: annthropos i.e. human being] who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. These verses clearly give us God’s defense of Himself concerning His fair judgements. They point out the truth that in the final analysis, the claims of atheism and ignorance of the truth or what is good will not stand before God. For God declares that He has taken it upon Himself to make Himself known to all mankind so that human beings are without excuse for claiming ignorance of God or His truth (Romans 1:19). God again testifies of Himself that He has revealed His invisible qualities, eternal power and divine nature through the things that He has created, so that not even mankind’s attempt to use a theory (suggestions/suppositions with no actual factual basis) of evolution to explain away the creation offers them any credible excuse. As the Scripture says, God has made evident that which is known about Him to all mankind (Romans 1:19). Furthermore, He has sent His Holy Spirit into the earth who convicts the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment (John 16:8).

The one big choice every human being is faced with is the choice to respond to God’s call or not, even as God has made Himself known. We may not all start out with Jesus, the only way to God (John 14:6). But the Scriptures make it abundantly clear that irrespective of how or the medium people may try to use to reach God, if they are sincere in their heart, then God Himself will show them the right way. i.e. through Jesus Christ. We shall look at some Scriptural examples in the next post.
