The Power of Vision – Part 1

The Power of Vision

We read in Proverbs 29:18 that “Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, But happy is he who keeps the law” (NASB). The Hebrew word translated vision in this text is “Chazown”, which also means revelation, prophecy, divine communication, or divine message. In the world, people create visions for themselves by having mental pictures or imaginations of what they wish to become and pursue that. But this is not the kind of vision described in the Scripture above, and that is also not the kind of vision we are called to have. But rather, the vision, dream, mental picture or revelation that is divine in its origin or comes from God. So Proverbs 29:18 is rightly translated in the English Standard Version as “Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law”. It is also rightly translated in the Amplified Bible as “Where there is no vision [no revelation of God and His word], the people are unrestrained; But happy and blessed is he who keeps the law [of God]” (Proverbs 29:18).

So, literally, Proverbs 29:18 tells us that as individuals or cooperate body, when we lack God’s vision for our lives we become unrestrained or ungovernable. This also means that the vision God has for us should govern us, and be our focus and guiding principle in life. Consequently, one of the wisest quest of our lives, according to the Scriptures, is to determine what God’s vision is for our lives individually, and in whatever God has made us a part of (cf. Ephesians 5:17, Proverbs 29:18).

Biblically, we find that there is an ultimate goal or vision God has for each of us, and His vision for each of us individually. God’s ultimate vision for each of us can be found in Romans 8:29: For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son…. i.e., our ultimate goal in life is to be conformed to the image of Christ. This is God’s ultimate vision for each of us. When we loose sight of this ultimate goal of our lives, we would fail to walk in the individual or personalized vision God has for each of us.

A Very Important Message
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). Therefore, If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, I invite you to put your faith in Him. Pray the prayer below to accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour: “I come to you God in Jesus’ name and surrender my life unto you. I repent of my sins and I ask You to forgive me all my sins. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and I believe with my heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead. I thank you God for saving me, in Jesus name, Amen”. If you sincerely prayed this prayer, believe and be assured that you are saved, for the Bible says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13, Romans 10:9-10, Acts 16:31).
